RLS-NYC is looking for freelancers or agencies to work with on an as-need basis for the following services:

German Translation

RLS-NYC is calling for applications for a framework contract for German translation services covering the period from 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2023 with the possibility to renew annually twice (through 31 December 2025), if both parties agree. We cannot guarantee a number of words to be translated; we will request translations services during the contract period as required. Services rendered may not exceed a maximum sum of $50,000 over the life of the contract. The specific assignments may differ from those in the list below; the list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the possible tasks that may arise.

Scope

We are keen to hear from translators or translations firms who are experienced, reliable and have collaborated with left-wing organizations. Knowledge of progressive/leftist issues is required.

Over the course of the contract, RLS will need the following types of content translated from English into German:

  • Articles of 1,000-3,000 words
  • Longer studies of around 12,000 words
  • Pamphlets and text for print civic education materials
  • Transcripts of recorded events
  • Other content that maybe produced by the RLS-NYC office

Spanish Interpretation

RLS-NYC is calling for applications for a framework contract for Spanish interpretation services covering the period from 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2023 with the possibility to renew annually twice (through 31 December 2025), if both parties agree. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours of interpretation needed; we will request interpretation services for individual events during the contract period as required. Services rendered may not exceed a maximum sum of $60,000 over the life of the contract. The specific assignments may differ from those in the list below; the list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the possible tasks that may arise.

Scope

We are keen to hear from interpreters or interpretations firms who are experience, reliable and have collaborated with left-wing organizations. Having experience interpreting events on climate justice, indigenous issues and feminist issues is a major asset.

Over the course of the contract, RLS will need the following English-Spanish interpretation services:

We cannot guarantee an order volume; we will place individual orders during the contract period as required. Services rendered may not exceed a maximum sum of $180,000 over the life of the contract. The specific assignments may differ from those in the list below; the list is not exhaustive but provides an overview of the possible tasks that may arise.

Scope

We are keen to hear from graphic designers or graphic design firms who are creative and deadline-oriented, work reliably and have collaborated with left-wing organizations. Having experience in creating content for political education work is a major asset.

Over the course of the contract, RLS will commission the following types of projects:

  • Promotional posters               
  • Social media graphics           
  • Layout of 25 page PDF publication for print and online                  
  • Design and layout of public education pamphlet for print and online 
  • Creation of 2 min animated video

All text will be provided by RLS-NYC, but original artwork may be required for some deliverables.

Two rounds of revisions should be expected per project.

We are keen to hear from print shops who deadline-oriented, reliable and have collaborated with left-wing organizations. Unionized and work-owned shops are strongly encouraged to bid.

  • 8×11.5 booklet, full color
  • 6×9 bound full color book

IT Services

RLS-NYC is calling for applications for a framework contract for IT services covering the period from covering the period from 1 February 2023 to 31 December 2023 with the possibility to renew annually twice (through 31 December 2025), if both parties agree. Role description

  • IT generalist with experience in Windows administration / support in corporate environments
  • Acts as first point of contact for all ICT related issues, problems and questions (i.e. 1st level support)
  • Triages all ICT related problems and
  • solves those problems which can be solved autonomously / locally
  • escalates those problems to RLS IT dept. (i.e. 2nd level support) which require it
  • escalates external problems (e.g. internet connection down) to respective providers’ / vendors’ support
  • Communicates and collaborates with RLS IT dept. through the proper channels and tools, also pro-actively if needed
  • Able to deliver basic training for local staff (after being trained by RLS IT dept.)

Typical tasks

  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot end user devices and locally managed ICT assets (printers, scanners, phones, smart phones)
  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot end user applications (default RLS software, e.g. Outlook / Office programs, etc.)
  • Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues (internet connection; on-premises ethernet, wifi, cabling)
  • Proactively monitor and identify problems with locally managed ICT assets (procure and replace consumables, cabling, internet / phone connectivity, etc.)
  • Handle IT related communication with local providers and vendors (e.g. internet service providers)
  • Assist the RLS office in IT related procurements (e.g. notebooks) and maintenance (repairs / RMAs)
  • Assist RLS IT dept. when integrating newly procured hardware (computers, network devices) into RLS domain
  • Maintain, check and update documentation on changes (e.g. network / wiring diagrams)
  • Assist local employees in on-boarding process (e.g. set up workplace and end-user IT systems; give introduction to RLS IT services)
  • Train / advise local staff (after receiving such training from the RLS IT department / following our “train the trainer” approach)
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks and a prepare a monthly report of current issues

Required Skills

Technical skills

  • Configure and troubleshoot Windows 10 on RLS supported hardware (notebooks, PCs)
  • Configure and troubleshoot MS Office 2016 (esp. Outlook, Word, Excel, localization options)
  • Configure and troubleshoot typical office software (see Baramundi Kiosk; as required by your office)
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot locally required software (e.g. accounting / banking / legal software; as required by your office)
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot local ICT hardware assets (printers, scanners, phones, VoIP; as required by your office)
  • 3.1.2. Basic skills in
  • Network fundamentals: TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, VLANs, VPN,
  • Active Directory (understand users & group management, mapping / accessing shares, permissions)
  • IT security topics (common threats and counter-measures)
  • End user IT security issues (such as phishing, viruses, malware, ransom-ware, etc.)
  • Commissioning active network components (switches, routers, access points, structured cabling)
  • Experience working with server hardware (including accessories such as UPS)

Non-technical skills

  • Proficiency in English or German (written and spoken) for communication with the RLS IT department
  • Is available and responds within the times defined in the SLA (both to local users and RLS IT department)
  • Acts proactively when identifying problems
  • Independent and service-oriented way of working
  • Understands the bigger picture but pays attention to details

Required Experience

  • Ideally somebody with 3+ years prior experience working in a similar environment
  • For the in-depth skills: 3+ years prior experience
  • For the basic skills: 1-3 years prior experience
  • Optional: relevant certificates such as MCSE, CCNA, CompTia Server+

Service Level Agreement (subject to contract with RLS international office)

  • Responds to communication from local staff and RLS IT department within the agreed time frame (suggested response time: same business day)
  • Must be able to visit your office when required (suggested response time: next business day)
  • A basic check of IT systems must be performed each month and a report with results sent to the RLS IT department

Code of Conduct

  • Identifies with and subscribes to the “Code of Ethics” from the USENIX Association (https://www.usenix.org/system-administrators-code-ethics)
  • Understands and protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all RLS assets and services (physical and virtual)
  • Respects and protects the privacy of all RLS users and partners (e.g. when dealing with user files or emails)
  • Exercises due diligence when dealing with highly sensitive information (such as passwords or any other kind of confidential information)
  • Follows RLS IT policies, guidelines, and protocols (after being briefed)
