Feminist organizing has repeatedly proven to be a powerful antidote to the poison of authoritarianism, and feminist collective action is vital to generating transformational change. This event explores feminist peacebuilders’ and grassroots climate defenders’ efforts to seek climate and gender justice while facing rising authoritarianism and anti-gender movements, as well as the threats of extractive industries and militarization. Speakers will discuss rising authoritarianism as part of a transnational, coordinated backlash against gains for gender rights, peace, and climate justice. We will also explore feminist strategies to confront attacks on civil society, targeted efforts to undermine social movements, and authoritarian deployment of military violence.
