This year’s NPT PrepCom takes place in New York City from April 28 to May 9, 2014.

The RLS–NYC is co-organizing four side-events with international speakers alongside this year’s NPT Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) in cooperation with peace organizations from Europe and the United States. The NPT PrepComs prepare the conferences that the United Nations organizes every five years to review the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This international treaty, which became effective in 1970, aims to prevent nuclear weapons and arms technology from being dispersed further and to reduce the existing stockpiles of nuclear weapons.

The co-conveners of this conference are the Peace and Economic Security Program of the American Friends Service Committee; the International Peace Bureau; the International Association of Lawyers against Nuclear Arms and its U.S. affiliates; the Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy; and the Western States Legal Foundation.
