Call for Applications: The Authoritarian Appeal

Authoritarian Neoliberalism & Reactionary Populism: The Authoritarian Appeal

The International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies (IRGAC), a joint initiative of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and the University of Potsdam, is inviting applications for two three-year PhD fellowships (April 2026–March 2029). The programme supports critical research on global authoritarianism and counter-strategies, especially from perspectives in and on the Global South, and fosters dialogue between scholars and activists across regions.

The call is open to citizens of ODA-recipient countries residing outside Europe, the USA, and Canada, and applicants should hold a recent Master’s degree and have strong English skills. The scholarship includes a tax-free stipend of €1,500 per month. Applications are accepted via the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung scholarship portal from January 1 to January 31, 2026.
