Climate Breakdown: Feminist Responses to Armed Violence, Extractive Industries, & Forced Migration

A CSW68 Parallel Event

Climate breakdown is fueled by economic models that favor extractive industries, drive armed violence, forcibly displace communities, and undermine the livelihoods and rights of women, girls, and LGBTQI+ persons globally. What’s more, states have historically relied on military strategies, to shield extractive industries or to secure control over natural resources, especially in Indigenous and Afro-descendant territories and rural areas.

Feminist peacebuilders and grassroots climate defenders worldwide are taking action to confront these intersecting threats. On Monday, March 11, we are co-hosting a CSW68 Parallel Event with the women’s rights organization MADRE to explore feminist peacebuilders’ efforts to seek climate and gender justice while advocating for peace and sustainable ways of life.

WHEN: Monday, March 11, 10:30 AM

WHERE: Church Center of the United Nations (777 United Nations Plaza, New York), Second Floor

The sixty-eighth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) will take place on March 11-22 at the United Nations Headquarters.
